I’m working on behalf of the International Institute for Environment and Development based in Chancery Lane.

IIED is a policy and action research organisation. They promote sustainable development to improve livelihoods and protect the environments on which these livelihoods are built. They specialise in linking local priorities to global challenges. IIED is based in London and works in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific, with some of the world’s most vulnerable people. They work with them to strengthen their voice in the decision-making arenas that affect them — from village councils to international conventions.

IIED has an opportunity for a Part Time HR Coordinator to provide a comprehensive HR administration and coordinating service in support of the staff and HR team.

The human resources function is well respected in the organisation and the HR team has strong leadership; creating a collaborative, supportive and non-hierarchical HR team. This is a busy role, crucial for the smooth running of the HR function. Administration:

  • Provide administrative support to HR colleagues - organising meetings, attending and taking minutes as required.
  • Carry out background research to support HR colleagues in the implementation of policy reviews and HR projects.
  • Provide support to the Head of HR as needed.
  • Reconcile the HR Team monthly expense report.
  • Work in conjunction with HR Advisor on payroll related matters as necessary including tracking staff changes that effect payroll, liaison with external Employee Benefit Administrator and Finance to resolve any issues and answering pay or other related queries.
  • Administer Pension scheme and liaise with the external Employee Benefit Administrator; Upload monthly pension data into Pension provider’s site; update the HR database with all changes and upload all information in time for payroll.
  • Administer benefits (cycle to work, childcare vouchers, Employee Assistance Programme, Employee benefits scheme)
  • Work across the team on the learning and development function, including the planning and managing of the training and induction Calendar.

Recruitment, Onboarding and Induction:

  • Responsible for certain aspects of recruitment in collaboration with HR colleagues which include tasks such as:
  • Collate, review and shortlist applications in conjunction with hiring managers.
  • Arrange interview panels where appropriate and complete follow up actions.
  • Provide detailed feedback to interviewees.
  • Organise Work Permits, Visas or other types of applications necessary to allow staff to work in the UK.

Development and Training

  • Administer appraisal and training/development activities.
  • Using SelectHR manage the online booking process for internal workshops, training interventions and the maintenance of the training calendar.

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria

  • CIPD (this is desirable candidates with other relevant qualifications and HR related work experience will be considered)
  • Recent experience working in a similar generalist role within HR
  • Awareness of UK Immigration rules & visa application processes
  • Knowledge of HR & Recruitment databases
  • Experience organising and scheduling meetings, training events and taking minutes
  • Good attention to detail and the desire to improve and develop key systems
  • An adaptable and flexible approach with the ability to prioritise work effectively and balance conflicting demands under supervision
